Relaxing in Croatia

Sunset in Korcula

We arrived in Split, Croatia at 7:00 AM.  My first day in Split was spent organizing my itinerary for the following weeks and my second day I journeyed on a day trip to the island Brac to visit the famous Bol Beach. That morning, I began feeling sick (sore throat, sneezing). I spent the following week either lounging at random beaches around Croatia or exploring whichever island I was living on via bicycle. My route brought me from Split to the island Hvar to the island Korcula to the famous port city Dubrovnik. The sickness lasted until Dubrovnik, so I had a slightly limited experience of Croatia.

A few personal notes about Croatia:
  • The food is very salty. It seems like they soak all their food in salt before cooking. The food is tasty, but quite salty.
  • The country (both the mainland and the islands) is very beautiful. The water is cold, but a stunning shade of blue
  • The people are incredibly friendly (and tall)
  • Everyone speaks excellent English
  • The sunsets were the most consistently spectacular of all the places I have visited
